Why Dogs Do What They Do

The way dogs behave a times, can confuse their owners. This often makes the bond between the dog and the owner difficult. If you understand why dogs do what they do, and how they do them, it will give you an upper hand in the bonding and training process.

Being a member of the wolf family, dogs have a social habit that makes them run in parks. They all have their roles, ranging from the dominant male and the submissive females.

Traits such as establishing or developing roles in the park is one of the such habits that the domestic dog inherited. A dog will like to know where he or she fits in the park. This makes it essential for the dog owner to take the lead and become the leader. Unless this is done, the process of bonding and training will be a little difficult.

Some dog owners are sometimes reluctant in taking the lead, because they are afraid of offending their little friend (dog). You have to overcome this fear if you really want to achieve your goal of having a submissive dog.

A dog will establish himself as the boss if he is not tamed, he also end up growling and biting the owner, thus dominating. To avoid such acts, the owner has to take the lead by showing the dog that he must take the lesser place in the social order.

Such a dog will reject your training efforts, because he feels he is in charge. Some dogs might become too protective, thus becoming a danger to others, and even their owners. This is a natural character built in the wolf family; they often take the lead in protecting the pack.

One thing that is paramount in dog training is that you have to teach your dog, and also learn from your dog.

I believe this article has opened your eyes to some little things, that though they look small or negligible, they really matter in the successful training of a dog.

How to reward an obedient dog.
Like humans, dogs also need to be rewarded for their obedient behavior. Some dogs prefer to be given food, while others prefer to be given toys to play with, while a tap on the back will be ok with some dogs. One needs to know what his/her dog likes.

Some of the ways to facilitate the training process of your dog are:

Ø You can use food to treat your obedient dog. This works perfectly with virtually all dogs. Giving your dog his favourite food will make it behave well next time.

Ø The use of your voice can be very helpful to the dog. You can use words like “Good boy” or any scintillating tune to cheer your dog up for an obedient behavior.

Ø Use a particular phrase or command each time you want to stimulate your dog to do something. With consistent repetition of the phrase will make your dog master it, and it will increase the rate of its obedience.

Dogs like instant appreciation for a behavior well done. This inspires them and motivates them to do more. Further more, this type of rewards makes the relationship between you and your dog to be more cordial and powerful.

Dog Training - The Things You Must Never Do With Your Dog

Don't you ever notice that there is always something telling you what to do with your dog? they always seem to know exactly what you can and can't do with your dog, like they are experts at dog training.

For example, many dog trainers have told me to never play tugs of war with any of my dogs. I am not sure why but that is what the experts have told me to no do. Go figure.

Another thing that multiple people have told me is that sleeping with your dog on your bed is a really bad idea. Also, people tell me that dog's should be never fed people food like hamburgers or rice. I am not sure the reasoning behind this either but that's OK.

There are so many things that people say I should NEVER do with my dog. I could practically write a whole book about it if I wanted to (and if I was bored enough). To tell you the truth though, I have found that playing games like tug of war with my dog is a good thing. It's like playing around kids except it's with your rowdy dog. Weird huh?

Also, I have let my dogs sleep with me many times and it hasn't made them any less tame. In fact, my dogs seem to be even more obedient when I let them sleep with me. And anyhow, who wouldn't want to hang out with their dog? Sounds like a good idea to me.

The important things is that every dog is completely different (some more than others). Every owner is different as well. Every household is pretty different. If your dog understands who is in charge (you), then there really should not be a problem with letting it sleep on the bed with you or play tug of war. It's all about obedience and trust.

In my place, I kind of let my dogs do what they want. I don't completely advocate this but it works for them and me. I can let them sleep with me or lay on the couch and its not like the world comes to an end. If I tell them to do something, they do it. No questions asked. Of course, dogs can't ask questions but that's beside the point.

They don't disobey my orders. They don't try and defend the couch from me or anyone else. They follow what I say and are happy with it. If my dogs ever did growl or defend the couch, then I would take that privilege away from them until they learned their lesson.

The best way to get your dog to get off the bed or couch is to just tell them "OFF". If he ignores you then maybe you should start using a leash or something so you can pull them away. Just give a small tug on its leash.

This is all important for dog training. If you really want to know how to train your dog properly and efficiently then go to this website: http://www.teachthatdog.com to learn how you can personally train your dog the right way. Click here now.
